When the World Mocked—God Marked
Share
David functioned as a shepherd before he became king. Most people would have said he seemed completely unsuited for any important role. David’s own father failed to include him as a guest at his anointing ceremony according to 1 Samuel 16. God marked him when the world chose to ignore him. And David believed it.
Our breakthrough occurs when we believe in God's calling for us. David transformed the oil on his head into a practical demonstration of his faith. That belief prepared him to face Goliath. It wasn’t bravado. It was faith. David moved ahead when others shrank back because he trusted in God's strength rather than his own.
Belief Over Appearances
Samuel thought Eliab looked the part. Tall, strong, firstborn. But God had a different standard: According to 1 Samuel 16:7 people assess external looks while God examines the heart. David's heart was full of faith. God chose David based on his preparedness to prioritize belief in Him above all else instead of his professional background.
This isn’t just an Old Testament moment. It’s our story, too. The world judges by appearances yet God seeks those who put their trust in Him. To be chosen by God requires putting greater faith in His word than in what others think.
Goliath Mocked God, David Believed God
Goliath's insults targeted both Israel and God. And that stirred something in David. He couldn’t stay silent. David recognized that God’s word held more power than the giant’s threats. His faith empowered him with courage and provided him both clarity and confidence.
David charged at Goliath without relying on his physical abilities. He was leaning on truth. That’s what belief does. It turns ordinary people into giant-slayers. The first step to dominating the world involves accepting the divine word spoken to you.

Set Apart By Faith
After receiving his anointment David resumed his duties on the battlefield. Belief marked the beginning of the process before oil played any role. Faith turned that moment into a mission. David expressed his worship and prayers while maintaining his belief in tranquil locations. The period between receiving a promise and reaching a platform serves as the arena where belief undergoes its trial.
Your hidden state doesn't mean you have been forgotten. God marks those who believe. Not those who impress. Not those who perform. But those who trust.
Believe Boldly
You are anointed. God made the declaration that gave me my anointing, not the words of people. Believe it. Walk in it.
Remember Goliath when you receive mockery for your dreams and faith from the world. Remember David. The essential component to understand is how belief in God’s word makes all the difference.
Declare your anointing. Believe it. Wear the message.
